Make sure you're in a quiet room, where you can produce a clear sound with the guitar only. If you're tuning a new guitar for the first time, make sure you're tuning into the correct octave number, shown on the Tuner Reading chart at left. Factory set-ups can be quite rough so look at both the note letter and octave number.
Scroll to the tuner above and start by clicking the 'OK' button on the tuner. Grant permission to the tuner to access your computer's microphone, up in the URL bar.
Play a single string, starting with Low E, or the bottom string. Allow the tuner to detect the pitch.
The tuner will display the detected note and its accuracy. It will often show a line or dot to indicate if the note is sharp (too high) or flat (too low) compared to the correct pitch.
If the string is not in tune, turn the corresponding tuning peg on the guitar headstock to raise or lower the pitch until the tuner indicates it's in tune.
Repeat Steps 2-4 for every string, working your way up to the top. After tuning all the strings, double-check them in reverse order, as the overall tension of the neck can affect the strings' pitch. Press the back button on your browser to return to your audio listening page.
